Presbyopia
Presbyopia literally means "old eyes". This is when it becomes more difficult to focus on close objects. This occurs as a result of the lens in the
eye becoming firmer and less flexible during our lifetime. Consequently the muscles around the lens can no longer mould the lens into the correct shape to bring an object into focus. We use varifocals, bifocals, and reading spectacles to correct this. The reading addition part of the sight test result shows how strong or weak the reading addition is. This prescription is in "addition " to the rest of the prescription. Generally the older one becomes the stronger the reading addition becomes. The first time a prescription is recorded is usually around the age of forty
