28th May 2020

I hope you and your loved ones are keeping well and staying safe.

Here is the latest news from Robert Stanley Opticians.

During the crisis, we have been open for telephone and video consultations, spectacle and contact lens orders and deliveries throughout Oxfordshire.  We also have a repairs service available to help you through those accidents – it seems like there are more people sitting on glasses than ever before!  This system has worked well and remains in place for the foreseeable time.

If you need to contact us, please call your regular branch between 10am and 4pm (Monday to Friday) or drop us an email if you’d prefer.  There is also an out of hours voicemail service available.

Next steps

We do not expect government guidance to allow routine appointments until at least 4th July but in the meantime we are planning to introduce appointment only essential services at every branch with staggered openings throughout June as follows;

Abingdon - Tuesday 9th June
Headington - Tuesday 16th June
Thame - Tuesday 23rd June
Wallingford - Tuesday 30th June

Wantage Health Centre - due to its compact size we need longer planning to open this store safely and will keep you informed with progress.

Initial opening times will be Tuesday to Friday 9am until 5:30pm and Saturday, 9am until 4pm.

Essential services are classed as emergency or urgent eye examinations due to your symptoms, repairs to glasses and replacement glasses.  If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to ring us - we are here to help you.

I wanted to give you an idea of the changes we are making to ensure your future visits to us are safe and the service that our team of Vision and Hearing Experts provide you is in-depth, up to date and enjoyable.

A change of layout

We have rearranged the branches to help everyone stay safe and respect social distancing.  We have hand gel dispensers installed at every entrance door and you will see signage and floor markings to help you around the building.  When we re-open we will have a locked door policy and we will ask you to pre-book your visit to us by calling us on 01869 360557 (our online booking will be re-introduced once our systems have bedded in).  This will ensure that we have a maximum of 2 Customers in the branch at any one time.

Slowing down

When we re-open for routine appointments, we want to ensure that your experience is relaxed and we want you to have the time to make informed decisions about your eyecare and eyewear.  We will therefore only be seeing one person each hour for an eye examination or spectacle dispensing.  This also allows time for our areas to be disinfected effectively before our next patient.

PPE

During some tests or examinations, we need to get within the social distancing measurements.  We’ve fitted screens to instruments and our team will wear the relevant protective equipment for those tests.  Please don’t be scared as these precautions are there to protect you and your family as well as our team.  If you wish to wear a mask at any point, these will be available for you.  Throughout the branch there is hand sanitiser readily available and in use by the team.

Choosing frames

Our frames are all cleaned and disinfected at least daily but, before you try any on, we will disinfect the frames you select in a specialist UVC disinfection cabinet.  They will also go through the same process before going back on display.  We politely request that you do not self-select frames but allow our Vision Experts to help you make the right choices.

Deliveries to your door

Initially to help limit the number of Customers in the branch at any one time, we will delivery your completed spectacles or contact lenses to your home or office.  If you like this service, we will continue it in the future.

Training

During the lockdown all our team have been undertaking online training programmes for a wide variety of topics from the latest eye testing methods and new and better spectacle lenses through to courses on their own health and mental wellbeing.  Our team will each go through a thorough induction training day to ensure that they are all up to date with our new processes and safety procedures.  There will then be in-branch training with their manager before re-opening.

Your Health and Wellbeing

We have designed and developed a Health and Wellbeing Guide for our team members.  As it was received so well, we have created a free download for you and your family.  If you’d like to find out more about this, please feel free to visit www.robertstanley.co.uk/wellbeing.  We’ve included lots of tips on helping your own physical and mental health as well as providing links and information on employment and financial support.

Eye test reminders

Once we re-open we will start to send reminders to those who are due for eyetests etc.  We expect a very busy first few weeks so please bear with us when we make your appointment.  Slowing down will no doubt cause a few delays but we think it is worth it to ensure you receive the very best (and safest) eyecare.  We will always keep some emergency appointments available for your urgent enquiries.

Please only visit the branch at the moment if you have a pre-arranged appointment as our team will not be able to assist you at the door.

You can call your regular branch as usual;

Abingdon 01235 520849
Bicester 01869 360557
Headington 01865 766488
Thame 01844 261096
Wallingford 01491 837033
Wantage Health Centre 01235 769596

We look forward to welcoming you back to Robert Stanley Opticians soon.

Stay safe and keep well

ARCHIVE (the following information is now out of date but is provided to give an insight into our changing situation).

Robert Stanley Opticians hold an NHS contract and are official Key Workers - we are still here to help you but we only offer telephone consultations at the moment.

Following the announcements by the Prime Minister on Monday night (23rd March 2020) I am afraid that for several reasons we are not open for routine visits at any branch.  The safety of our Customers and Team members is our absolute priority and it is not sensible to open at this time.  A limited number of people are still working within the organisation so please be aware that we will be offering a limited service during this time.

If you require a repair to your glasses we ask you to contact your regular branch in the first instance and we will explain how we can best help you.

During our limited opening hours (10am until 4pm - Monday to Friday), please call your regular branch for information.  Telephone lines are being diverted to two key branches (Abingdon and Bicester) who will handle all enquiries initially.  We can discuss your concerns and point you in the best direction.  Outside of the above hours we recommend you contact NHS111 or your GP surgery.

We can arrange delivery and fitting or in the worst case scenario, post your eyewear to you.  When we contact you to advise your glasses are ready, we will arrange the most appropriate way to get them to you.  If you have already been advised they are ready, please do call us if you haven't had a follow up call as yet and we will arrange delivery for you.

When your contact lens autoshipments arrive, we will contact you as usual and arrange delivery to you in the most convenient way.  Many of our suppliers offer a direct to you shipping option and we are putting this in place for all Customers who's lenses can be delivered in this way.

Our team of Vision and Hearing Experts are here to help you.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at any point if you have any concerns.

Keep well and stay safe everyone.
