What types of cookies does Robert Stanley Opticians use?
 
There are generally four categories of cookies: “Strictly Necessary,” “Performance,” “Functionality,” and “Targeting.” Robert Stanley Opticians, through its MySight application uses only “Strictly Necessary” cookies.  Strictly Necessary Cookies are cookies that are essential, as they enable you to move around the Service and use its features, such as accessing logged in or secure areas, booking appointments etc.  Robert Stanley Opticians do not use cookies for any other purpose.
 
How long will cookies stay on my device?
 
The length of time a cookie will stay on your computer or mobile device depends on whether it is a “persistent” or “session” cookie. Session cookies will only stay on your device until you stop browsing. Persistent cookies stay on your computer or mobile device until they expire or are deleted.
 
First and third party cookies
 
First-party cookies are cookies that belong to Robert Stanley Opticians, third-party cookies are those used by another party and are used by our MySight software provider to allow our online booking system to work for you.  Again these are “Strictly Necessary” cookies to enable us to offer you a booking service.
 
How to control and delete cookies
 
You can delete or disable cookies in your settings section of your PC or device.  Note that if you set your browser to disable cookies, you may not be able to access certain parts of our Service and other parts of our Service may not work properly. We are obliged by law under the Data Protection Act to protect any data that you may choose to give us.  Given the clinical nature of our work, we take this very seriously.  Your data is retained on a secure server by our software provider (Optix Software Limited).  This is merely a hosting service to ensure the highest levels of data security and protection and is secure and certified to ISO27001.

We use only the highest level of security protection and data encryption at all levels of our business.

Your data is used for the sole purpose of providing you with a service that you have requested.  For example; the provision of eye examinations, contact lenses and spectacles.  You may choose to opt-out of any marketing activities but the nature of our service means that we contact you when you are due for eye examinations.  You can of course choose to opt-out of this as well by simply advising a member of the branch team.

All staff must read and sign a comprehensive IT security and data protection policy document on their first day of employment to ensure we do everything in our power to always meet our obligations.

We are fully registered members of ico (Information Commissioners Office).

Your data is never shared with any other business party and would never be sold to another party for the purposes of cross-marketing or any other activity.  The only time data would be shared is with a medical practitioner should onward referral be appropriate and this would only be done with your consent.

In addition to the Data Protection Act we are also obliged to act within the clinical remit of Patient Confidentiality.

We are an NHS contractor.  Should you wish to take advantage of a government funded examination (subject to your exemption), your name, address, DoB, reason for exemption and last eye test date would need to be shared to gain funding.  You would need to sign a form prior to your examination to receive this funding.  The form is forwarded to Capita for payment.
