Is my data safe with Robert Stanley Opticians

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sought to protect your data and its use more thoroughly right across Europe.

Before May 2018, we already operated safely within the old Data Protection Act and, because of our clinical background, also operate under patient confidentiality laws.  However GDPR brought extra protection for your data and how companies can and can't use it.

Here are some of the things GDPR protects you from;
  • If you deal with a company electronically, you cannot be automatically opted in to marketing any more.
  • You cannot be sent marketing information by a company (even if you opted in) if you have not made a transaction with that company for more than 24 months.
  • Your data cannot be shared with another company unless you expressly request it.
So what are Robert Stanley Opticians doing to protect your data?

Well firstly we accepted that we're Vision and Audiology Experts not IT Experts!  That's why we have a cyber security expert working with us to protect you and we have an appointed Data Protection Officer (DPO) to comply with the law.

We operate one of the most secure and technically advanced software systems on the market that is hosted off site and your data is protected by end-to-end encryption at all times.  If a file was intercepted by a hacker, it would be meaningless.  In addition, all our branches have the latest virus protection on all PCs, all PCs are password protected and we have government level firewall checkpoint boxes at all sites to encrypt your data and block cyber attacks.

And what about all that marketing rubbish?

We don't want to send you information that you don't want or need.  If you've opted in to our marketing, we promise to only send you one marketing communication per season and the occasional invite to an exclusive event or product launch.

Every communication we send you via text or email has an opt-out option where you can review exactly what we can send you AND, by what means.

What about clinical information?

As clinicians, we have an obligation to retain a method of contact for all our Customers.  Why?  If you ever buy a clinical product from us that requires a safety recall for example then we are obliged to contact you personally and warn you and request the product be recalled for the manufacturer to replace for you.  We also wish to advise you when it is time for another eye examination to check the health of your eyes.

We hope this gives you an insight into how we protect your data - if it's important to you, it's important to us!
